Moriah United Methodist Church Cemetery

Above is a 1963 reconstructed-in-miniature version of Moriah Methodist Church, founded in 1813.

Directions to get to Moriah United Methodist Church: The church is located in Greensboro, North Carolina, South of I- 40 and East of US-421. From I-40E take exit 126 for US-421 S toward Sanford. Turn right at JM Hunt Jr. Expy/Martin Luther King Jr. Dr/ US-421. Continue to follow JM Hunt Jr Expy/US-421. Turn left at Edgemont Rd. Turn right at Liberty Rd/ State Road 3549. The address of the church is 3611 Liberty Road (Old 421) South), Greensboro. The GPS reading at the first Sharpe tombstone area described below is 36° 1.145' N, 79° 45.480' W.

The cemetery adjacent to Moriah United Methodist Church is the resting place of many Sharpe and Glass family members.

In the large Sharpe plot shown below are buried Julius Henry Sharpe (#13) and his wife, Mary Elizabeth Donnell (#14) and many of their children (brothers and sisters of Terry Donnell Sharpe (#7)): Robert Norman Sharpe and his wife, Marie Alexander Vance; Ernest Perry Sharpe and his wife Bessie Lavinia Coble; William Henry Sharpe and his wife Beatrice Styers; and some of Julius' and Mary's grandchildren: Jule T. Sharpe (Son of William Henry Sharpe and Beatrice Styers) and Jule's wife?, Violet G.; Robert Edwin Sharpe (Son of Ernest P. Sharpe and Bessie Coble) and Robert's wife, Evelyn Logue.

(The source of this blue information is David Ruben Glas' death certificate.) [Note: The death certificate date of David Ruben Glass' birth is not correct. The date on that form says he was born in 1869, which is 6 years after his father died.]

 

Further research will be done to see the relationship between the other Glass family members in Moriah Cemetery and Ellen Glass(#26).

Although pictures have not yet been taken of the following sisters of Terry Donnell Sharpe (#7), they are also buried in this cemetery: Mary Gertrude Sharpe and her first husband, Cleo Burgess; and Sarah Edna Sharpe (married Eugene McLean).
