Below: This photograph was in a family photo album in the possession of Evelyn Bumgarner (a Reger descendent) on 9 September 2009. The photo was labeled "Henry C. Colerider (#15)'s Maternal Aunts." That means these women were Jemima's sisters. They must be Mary Elizabeth Reger, Virginia Reger, and Martha Jane Reger, but which lady is which is unknown. [Note: Based on the aging appearance, Susan Snyder guesses that Virginia is on the left, Martha Jane is in the middle, and Mary Elizabeth is on the right.]

Miscellaneous:

The 1830 Census of Lewis County: [Jemima's father, Henry Reger (#59)] REGER, Henry (total 9) lists the following: 1 male 30-40 = Henry, age about 36; 1 female 20-30 = 2nd wife, [Jemima's mother, Barbara Strader (#60)] Barbara, age about 27; 1 male 10-15 = Anthony, of Henry's 1st marriage, age 14; 1 female 10-15?; 2 males 5-10 = Goodman, of Henry's 1st marriage, age 8 and ?; 1 female under 5 = Jemima, age 4; 2 males under 5 = John S, age 2, and Henry Jr., age 1. [Larwvusa Note: It appears to be that the 2 missing kids (1 boy and 1 girl) from the prior census are still in household in 1830.]

1840 Census, Lewis County: REAGER, Henry (total 8): 1 male 40-50 = Henry, age about 46; 1 female 30-40 = wife, Barbara, age about 37; 1 male 20-30 = Anthony, of his 1st marriage, age 24; 1 male 15-20 = Goodman, age 18, of his 1st marriage; 1 female 10-15 = Jemima, age 14; 1 male 10-15 = John S., age 10; 1 male under 5 = Martin, age 4; 1 female under 5 = Mary Elizabeth, age 2 (note son William, born July 1840, was not on the census).

Jemima was only 16 years old when she married Edward.

In the 1850 census for District 30 in Lewis, Virginia, Jemima's husband, Edward, appears as Edward Collender. Birth Year: abt 1818; Birthplace: Virginia; Home in 1850: District 30, Lewis, Virginia; Family Number 242. Household Members include: [Edward's father (Henry Colerider #57)] Henry Collender: 68 (Farmer with value of real estate owned: $1000); [Edward's mother Eleanor (#58)]: Ellen Collender: 52; Edward Collender: 32 (Farmer); Mary Collender: 17; Elizabeth Collender: 33; Margaret Collender: 7; Barlow Collender: 5; Winford Collender: 3, and John W. Collender 1. [Note: This census, enumerated on the 13th day of July 1850 is very difficult to read. Jemima, aged 24 at the time of the census, is missing from the census. The identity of Elizabeth Collender, aged 33 is unknown. Mary is Edward's sister and Jemima's sister-in-law. Margaret, Barlow (Barbara Ellen), Winford, and John W. are Edward's and Jemima's children. In the 1860 Census of Buckhannon, Upshur, Virginia, enumerated on the 30th day of June, there were 11 people living in E. J. Colerider's home: E.J. Colerider: 42 (a mechanic), Jemima Colerider: 33 (wife) , Margaret Colerider: 15 (Domestic), Barbary E. Colerider: 13, Winfield C. Colerider: 11, Mary Colerider: 9, Virginia Colerider: 7, Henry C. Colerider (#15) (age 5), Alverta Colerider: 3, Sally T. Colerider: 1, and Melville Johnson: 18 (Town Shoemaker?...hard to read). Click on the image below to see the 1860 census.

Jemima is listed in the 1870 West Virginia Census Index page 180 (WV56917825) as living in Elk Township in Harrison County. The listing includes: Edward J: 52, Boot Shoemaker; Jemima: 46, keeping house; Mary E: 19, at school; Virginia M: 17, at school, Alverda: 13, at school; Henry C.:14, at school; Sallie T. : 9; Florence C.: 7. Eleanor: 71, at home. [Susan Snyder's note: Eleanor was Edward's mother. His father must have died and Eleanor was living with Edward and Jemima in 1870.] Click on the image to see the 1870 census.

In the 1880 Census for Taylor County, West Virginia, Edward is 62 and a boot and shoe maker. Jemima is 53 and keeping house. She is listed as being born in Virginia, as were both her parents. Alvena is 22, Sallie is 21, Flora is 19. There are two boarders living at the home, Albert Graham 27 and Thomas W. Davis 27. Just below Edward's household on the census is Henry C. Colerider (#15), Jemima's son. Henry is the head of a household and 25 years old. He is a shoe maker. His wife, Alma, 22, is keeping house. Click on the image to see the 1880 census.

Edward and Jemima had 10 children in all, including 8 daughters and two sons: John Colerider, Bertie Colerider, Margaret L. Colerider (Married Douglas), Ellen B. Colerider (Married Dudley), Winefred C. Colerider (Married Shahan), Mary E. Colerider (Married Young), Virginia Minerva Colerider (Married Buzzell), Henry Clay Colerider (#15) (Married Anna Eliza Payne (#16)), Sally T. Colerider (Married Davis),and Flora Cecilia Colerider (Married Hesser). John died at 2 years of age.

Below is a photograph of Jemima, her husband, and their adult children. Front Row: Bertie Colerider, Virginia Colerider, Henry Clay Colerider (#15), Sallie (Sally) Colerider, Flora Colerider; Back Row: Maggie (Margaret) Colerider, Mary Colerider, Edward Jackson Colerider, Jemima Reger, Lum (Winifred) Colerider, and Ellen Colerider.

On the 1900 Census for Grafton Ward 1, Taylor, West Virginia, Jemima is listed as living with Barbara Dudley b. 7-1845 (54, widow, head of the house, 5 children, 4 living, owns house), Barbara's children (Fred R Dudley b. 2-1868, 32, train dispatcher; Daisy Dudley b. 2-1874, 26, dry good store; Della Dudley b. 11-1879, 20, telephone operator; and Edward Dudley b. 8-1882, 17, at school; and Barbara's sister, Alberta Colerider b. 11-1870, 30 single. Jemima is listed as being born April 1825. She was 74, a widow, the mother of 10, with 7 living children, born in West Virginia. Her father and mother are also listed as being born in West Virginia. [Susan Snyder's note: Barbara Dudley and Alberta Colerider are two of Jemima's 10 children. Barbara Dudley is Ellen B. Colerider listed in the picture above and probably the Barbary E. listed on the 1860 Census. Fred, Daisy, Della, and Edward are 4 of Jemima's grandchildren. Jemima was born April 1826, not April 1825. The age of 74 is correct on the census. Alberta Colerider is probably Bertie Colerider listed above; but, if she is only 30 in 1900, Jemima would have been 44 when Alberta was born in 1870. If Alberta is the Averta Colerider on the 1860 census, the 1860 census states that she was 3 in 1860, so she should be listed as ~ 43 on the 1900 census and Jemima would have been 31 when she gave birth to this daughter.]
