James E. Rice, Sen., an old and great-
ly respected citizen of Pickaway town-
ship, died last Wednesday, aged 79 years.
He was taken sick while attending the
funeral of his daughter, Mrs. Reuben
Pontius, Jan. 20th. He came to Ohio
From Vermont in early life, and amassed
a large amount of property, in this coun-
ty and Kansas. He has been a Director
of First National Bank, of Circleville,
many years. He leaves a large family of
sons and daughters. His wife died some
years since.
[Is the sentence "His wife died some years since" referring to his first wife, Jane, who died in 1844? His second wife, Elizabeth Steely did not die until April 1880. It is strange that his second wife is not mentioned in his obituary.]
